Bidding versus Estimating?
Given the current economic climate there are a lot of people "bidding" contractors against one another in an attempt to find the lowest possible price. I won't comment too much other than to say that choosing with your wallet instead of your intellect is usually pretty risky. At our company we simply estimate what our costs will be to do a project and state that in an estimate. If we "bid" against less qualified or lower quality companies, we are working towards the demise of our own company. We've worked way too hard at building a solid reputation every day to just let that collapse because we cannot pay our bills.
Who does the work?
At this time our company work is handled by Scott Avery, Tim Copeman, and Andrew Douglas. We are all employees of the company and not subcontractors. There is a complete chain of command for responsibility of quality to which we adhere. The employees are covered by workers compensation and are legitimately employed. Scott Avery is the owner and greatly depends upon the help of his top notch employees Tim and Andrew for creating quality hardwood floors. There are no charades within the company and hidden layers of management for "passing the buck". As a real bonus, no employee in the company is a smoker.
Andrew Douglas is an 8 year veteran of hardwood floor refinishing and installation. Andrew is from the Oregon Coast (Walport, OR) and has countless hours in refinishing hardwood floors. Andrew is a master of both wood floor sanding, finishing, and customer relations and etiquette. Andrew is an avid reader and listener of audio books in his spare time.

Continued relationship- After projects are done we don't just disappear into an abyss. We like our customers to know we still remember them and care about them. We publish a monthly newsletter, do a quarterly supplies delivery to customers homes, and keep in contact after our projects.
We feel that if you are comparing our estimate to another contractor that it is worth time to do an investigation so that you can make a true apples to apples comparison.
